HERE’S REAL LIFE EXAMPLE ON HOW TO MAKE MONEY FROM ONLINE LOCAL DIRECTORY…

There is a lady named Sharon Lambkin. She has a local directory serving the Rockport Texas area. Sharon has a very unique way of getting customers. She uses what some call the puppy dog close. You know, Mom takes little Nancy to the pet store just to look around. The kind salesperson says, handing a cute puppy to little Nancy, “Lady, let your little girl take the puppy home for a while, if you don’t want it, just bring it back.”

Sharon does the same thing. She creates an ad on her local directory for her potential customers. She sends a notice for the small business owner to “Look at your ad at rockport-etc.com “If you would like to leave it up just contact me and we can work out the details.”

No hard sell here, Sharon gives the business owner some free publicity for a while and gives him the opportunity to keep the ad up only if he wants to.

Sharon and others had their local directories up long before Google and Yahoo went “local.” I can’t help but think that the “little guys” prompted Google and other big boys to do the local directory thing also. Don’t despair. You can still walk down any business street in your city and pull money out of thin air even with the competition from the big boys. Why? Because they can’t give the customers what you can give them. PERSONAL ATTENTION! In this world and time when we are just numbers and one out of many customers, you can give your customers what the big guys can’t; your personal attention!

Discover What Others Are Doing
You will want to investigate what others are doing in the online local business directory. Do a Google or Yahoo Search for “local directory” or “local directories” and you will learn much from studying the various local directories.

Reality Checks
*Reality Check* Each call you make will be worth more than $5 and you won’t be able to make 30 calls a day. Set this as a goal so you won’t be disappointed when you first start. Depending on where I start and stop counting, my per call worth is from $20 to $98 per calls, whether they say yes or no. Currently my per call worth is $32. So right now in 5 calls I’ve done the $150. Believe me if I can do it anyone can. I’m not a natural born salesman, I just overcome fear every day.

*Reality Check* A No usually takes less than one minute and is discouraging. A Yes Takes about an hour or two and is very exhausting. Deal with it, keeping your goals in view at all times. It’s so easy to go home after a Yes, feeling good about the money in your pocket. After a Yes you have to overcome fear all over again because you know a NO is next. Whenever you get a NO, say, “THANK YOU” Out loud to the person and continue the sentence in your mind, “You’ve just put me one step closer to my next YES.”

*Reality Check* I don’t get $150 from every new customers, I get what I can. Not making $150 can easily be offset due to the 30­call rule. Shoot for those 30 calls a day and fall short (sometimes way short) but make 2 $75 sales and it’s just as good as one $150 sale. So is a $100 combined with a $50 sale.

*Reality Check* If you have a Day Job and can’t spend 6 or 8 hours a day selling then spend what you can. 10 hours on Sat. 2 hours on Wed. Start doing it when you can and your goals will be reached. Go out to eat with your family on Sunday and ask for the owner. I’ve failed only once to sell the owner of a restaurant on a website when I was eating in his restaurant. Don’t be afraid to get creative if you want to. “My family just loves your food, we would be privileged to list you on our local directory” either close the deal then or make an appointment to come back. If he makes the appointment you probably have the sale.

MAKE MORE MONEY FROM YOUR ADS SPACE

After you get many pages set up in the form of Ad pages and Restaurant Menus you can sell banner ad space on them for extra income opportunities. If you intend to do this. Let the main customer know when he buys your service that you are going to place a small banner ad at the top and/or bottom of his page. Explain to him that this will be a small link ad that does not compete with his business. Be sure he understands that by cross advertising like this you keep his costs down. If the customer objects to you putting the little link or banner ads on the top or bottom of his page then don’t do it. I’ve never had anyone object to this.
